Luostarin Välikatu runs through the heart of medieval Turku. The street leads up to Kaskenmäki hill to the former site of St Olav’s Dominican monastery, lying between here, the city centre and Turku Cathedral.

Following the Great Fire of Turku in the 19th Century the city was redesigned and rebuilt under a grid system, but the old medieval centre was left in it’s original form and Luostarin Välikatu (‘Monastery Avenue’) was kept as a reminder of the narrow medieval streets.

Nowadays it is the magnificent location for the Luostarin Välikatu Handicraft Stores, where local artisans sell their wares such as metal products, wood products, textiles, decorative design and jewellery.

Open during the summer season on weekdays 11am-5pm as well as during markets and events.

We welcome you down to explore the handicraft stores and the charming and historic atmosphere!
