Turku’s main railway station and its surroundings from the 1940’s are buildings designated by the National Board of Antiquities as nationally significant cultural environments.

The railway came into operation in Turku in 1876, and the old railway station was inaugurated on the main station’s current location. The new station building was completed in 1940 and designed by the architects Martti and Vaino Vähäkallio.
