The idea behind Movie Day is that friends of movies will have an opportunity to enjoy screenings free of charge throughout the day around the city in restaurants and shopping centres, for instance. During the day, there is enough time to see several films in several different locations.
The culmination of the day will be the Tom of Finland movie that is screened on the bank of the River Aura, address Läntinen Rantakatu 17. The movie tells the story of Touko Laaksonen from Kaarina, and some parts of the film have even been shot in Turku. A screen sized 12 metres will be hung on the side of a riverboat on the eastern bank of the river for the screening. The film is viewed across the river and approximately 500 seats have been reserved. The screening begins at 9:30 p.m. and the gates are open already at 8 p.m. Before the screening, the director of the film Dome Karukoski will talk about the movie and open the event.
Please note! The screening of Tom of Finland is free of charge but a ticket is required. You can get your ticket from the City Theatre box office located at the Market Hall. The stand seats are filled on a "first come, first served" basis and you may only enter with a ticket. There is a toilet at the event and the Leipomo Rosten bakery offers bread samples. If the night is cold, you may want to take a warm blanket with you. Bringing alcohol is prohibited but otherwise picnic items are allowed.
You can organise a screening even at your home
