Turku’s New Potato Festival digs up the spring potatoes for the eighth time on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th June. The festival is inspired by the gorgeous and distinctive flavour of Finland’s new potatoes, with delicious potato recipes enjoyed amidst happy company and an easy-going festival programme.

For the eight year the festival will be held in the courtyard of the Brewery Restaurant Koulu.

The festival kicks off on Friday with the Market Cookout competition, with judging at noon in the courtyard of the Brewery Restaurant Koulu. The chefs from Turku’s restaurants cook up some competitive portions. After judging, the winner is declared. Portions of the new potato creations can be bought from the market stalls, which open at 12pm.

Offering their own stalls are the Brewery Restaurant Koulu, Hus Lindman, J. J. de Nier, Jälkiruokala Xoco´s, Restaurant Aune, Kustavin Kipinä, Chic as well as Turku’s Master Chefs.

The festival’s opening ceremony is at 5pm. The city mayor, Minna Arve, will open the event and grace will be given by Mari Sandell, the chair of the Kaffeli Association. SoHon Torwet will play traditional music long into the night.

The courtyard will be open on Saturday at 12pm, and throughout the day visitors can enjoy delicious potato dishes, a brass band, summer food and general merriment. Stalls close at 10pm. Entry to the courtyard is free.
