On the west bank of the River Aura is a small park, which offers prime views of the River Aura.
Toward the mouth of the River Aura is located the old Barker factory where a park was constructed in the 1970s, now a popular playground with views of the river. By the playground you can admire the work of sculptor Kari Juva, a statue named Turku Built With Work.
The park opens up to good views of the River Aura, which is easy to cross on the nearby Föri-ferry. The park is also close to the Archipelago boat harbour where you can easily travel to the archipelago during summer aboard the S/S Ukkopekka and Rosita.
Barker Park is drawing international interest as the plan is to build an environmental art park, designed by the American contemporary artist and landscape architect Martha Schwartz. The project was initiated for Turku’s year as European Capital of Culture as part of the programme for 2011.
