Alvar Aalto Week comes to Turku and Paimio in the last week of August, bringing with it an interesting programme filled with architecture, design and art. The week includes architecture and design exhibitions, lectures, discussion events and architectural tours to locations that are less frequently open.
Various sports events will turn Turku into a sports arena for amateurs and professional athletes in August. The public can follow triathlon, marathon and cycling races even near the downtown. In addition, the Finnish Championships in padel and adult athletics will spice up the August.
August is one of the most animated months in Turku. Several large public events will be organized in the domain of sports and culture. Furthermore, there will be fairs and forums to attend.
The summer events include city culture, music, history, food, and maritime spirit in Turku in July. Events create action in your holiday culminating in the Ruisrock Festival. Get in the medieval sprit by attending the Turku Castle Medieval Tournament and see old steamboats on the River Aura.

The starting summer season increases the selection of events in Turku and brings out the best of the city of culture. Bustling activities will take place starting from May and everyone will surely find interesting events.
Wizz Air will launch a route from Turku Airport to Luton Airport, London, next summer. The route will be the first direct route from Turku to London and it is operated three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The event will be broadcast on television on Christmas Eve
The theme of Ecumenical Christmas this year is ”Living in harmony makes room”. The event will especially highlight the prevention of exclusion and inequality. The humanitarian message will be delivered by rap artist and author Karri Miettinen, alias Paleface, in the event which is organized already for the 25th time at the Turku Cathedral on 12 December, 2018.
The Theme for this year´s Art Festival is Missing language, characteristic for encounters and expression in our time of change, movement and globalization.

For Alvar Aalto week, the last building up for introduction is the white clean-lined Paimio Sanatorium, built in 1930–33.
Renamed in 1971 as the Paimio Hospital, this was that building that brought Aalto international recognition and it put Finland on the international map of modern architecture.

In Turku, Finland the nature is very close to the city. There are many great areas nearby where you go and enjoy the nature and the silence. One of these great places is Kurjenrahka National Park.

Alvar Aalto week is finally here!
Next building for introduction is the Southwestern Finland Agricultural Cooperative Building. It was the first building that Aalto desinged to Turku. It was build in 1927-1928 and The building has five floors and an attic.The floor area is 12,050 m².
Southwestern Finland Agricultural Cooperative Building, along with Aalto’s other works, the Standard Apartment House and The Office Building for Turun Sanomat Newspaper, are included in the listing of Built Cultural Environments of National Importance.
